Corporate Social Responsibility
Synergy Security Solutions believes that it is vital to conduct business with the highest standards of integrity and a strong commitment to protect and support its people, customers and other stakeholders; importantly encompassing a responsible attitude on environmental matters as well as actively supporting community-related initiatives.
With over 800 people working at customer sites - often on a 24 hour basis - employee satisfaction and health and safety are at the forefront of everything that we do. We have a responsibility to keep our people safe and ensure their health and wellbeing.
Employee Satisfaction and Well-being
People
Our people are Synergy’s greatest asset. Our investment in them and their wellbeing are at the forefront of everything we do.
Diversity
Synergy has long been committed to a policy of equal opportunity and of encouraging diversity among its workforce. It takes pro-active steps to ensure that current and potential employees do not suffer discrimination whether on grounds of gender, age, member travelling community, disability, race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation. We believe that a diversified workforce is a stronger one. All office based staff and site managers have to undergo a training day to learn about managing diversity and to understand their role and responsibilities in that process.
Training
Each year, every new employee undertakes a comprehensive induction and training programme. Other training programmes are run constantly throughout the year on a huge range of topics to equip our people fully for the tasks that they will undertake, to improve their health and safety at work and to enable them to do a better job for our customers.
The Synergy Academy
The Synergy Academy, now in its second year, provides a learning facility for management development and leadership tools. Every individual within the organisation who has direct responsibilities at their workplace is eligible to participate in the programme, and last year some 350 people attended training days.
Leadership is an integral part of this programme and the forum also provides a facility for colleagues to network with their counterparts in other divisions of the business to share their experiences in dealing with management issues.
Health and Safety
Health and Safety is an integral part of everything we do. Our focus on this has led to a number of external accreditations for the quality of our management systems and last year our business received a Platinum Award from our Industry Association.
Health and Safety training takes place at all levels throughout the business, including directors and senior management who regularly attend courses.
Recognition
Synergy’s long-standing Excellence through People accreditation powerfully affirms our belief in the value of enabling all our people to improve their knowledge and skills. It also underlines our sound approach to setting and communicating business objectives and training and developing our people to meet them.
Innovation is actively encouraged through our Blue Book scheme where a blue book is placed at every site and into which employees are invited to make suggestions for improving site operation. These suggestions can either relate to our own service provision or something concerning our customer’s business operations. All suggestions are reviewed by contract managers and awards are made monthly for the best ideas. Not only does this continuously improve our own service but it also can have quite significant benefits for our customers.

Consultative Groups
Throughout Synergy, there are a number of national and local consultative forums at which employees are encouraged to participate and where key issues can be raised and discussed. Meetings are minuted and are distributed to a wider group and posted to staff. The feedback provided by these meetings is an invaluable aid to opinion forming and decision making. Synergy also conducts regular employee satisfaction surveys, the results of which are reported on and shared with all employees, together with details of any action plans proposed in order to address issues revealed by the survey..
The wider policing family
Our work in the public and private sectors supports the extension of the wider policing family. We work with a number of crime-fighting initiatives at both a national, regional and local level.
The Environment
Synergy recognises the importance of environmental responsibility and it is our policy, wherever we conduct activities and business, to ensure that operational procedures are identified to give proper regard to the conservation of the environment.
The vast majority of Synergy’s work is conducted at customer sites. The focus of Synergy’s environmental initiatives is therefore:
- To help customers achieve their own environmental objectives, both by complying with their policies on those matters and by suggesting or advising on ways of improving working practices and sustainability. This year, over 500 security officers received guidance on the management of energy efficiency and waste at customer sites.
- To conduct its own activities and business with proper regard to the conservation of the environment. Synergy, by the fact that in most contracts which it enters into, will assume obligations to ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations.
Specific ongoing initiatives would include:
- The continuous renewal of vehicle fleet to ensure that environmental and CO² emissions are minimised and that greater fuel efficiency is attained by using the latest available technology.
- As part of a wider health & safety initiative, the environmental impact of all materials used in the business is constantly assessed and recycling is employed wherever possible.
- The creation of a clear awareness throughout Synergy’s workforce of the importance attached to environmental issues through consultative meetings, newsletters and training programmes. The whole issue of energy efficiency and waste management is a prominent part of our Blue Book scheme.
Community
Synergy is an enthusiastic supporter of community, voluntary and charitable groups, which fits well with our business aims and those of our customers. We believe strongly that successful and supportive communities are good for business.
We are actively working to encourage this and to provide working models which command public support. As part of these activities, Synergy has been delighted to sponsor such organisations as Local Youth Sports Organisations, Cunamh - Cancer Care along with The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which is a nationwide charity working for social justice and the creation of a more just, caring nation. This unique network of social concern also gives practical support to those experiencing poverty and social exclusion, by providing a wide range of services to people in need.
Culture and Values
Synergy Security Solutions are committed to developing a security company of national standing and distinction. We will at all times strive to satisfy the needs and aspirations of our discerning clients. We will provide a consistent quality and a uniquely personalized service, which represents value for money, thereby achieving our client’s loyalty. We recognize the importance of a safe and healthy work environment, and promote strong personnel training, thereby offering opportunities in career advancement. We energetically promote participation by all our staff in what we do, and support and recognize with enthusiasm each individuals contribution.
Whilst striving at all times for the highest standards of efficiency, we also promote and nurture good relationships with all our clients. The rewards reaped through personal and job satisfaction and a sense of achievement by all will engender a loyalty and an identity with Synergy Security.

Our people are the cornerstone of our business. Working in partnership with our customers, we employ innovative management practices to promote employee involvement, skills enhancement, exceptional work performance and recognition.
